Trauma therapy that goes

Some experiences leave the nervous system stuck — replaying, reacting, never fully resolving. EMDR is a research-backed therapy that helps the brain process painful memories at the root level. Not just coping. Healing.

Someone sits alone on a rock at the edge of a mountain view, pausing in the golden light for a quiet moment of reflection.

"EMDR is available both in-person at our Centennial office and via secure telehealth for clients anywhere in Colorado."

What is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR is a structured, trauma-informed therapy designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories that have become "stuck." When trauma occurs—whether from a single event or repeated relational injuries—the brain may not fully process the experience. Instead, memories remain stored with the original emotions, beliefs, and body sensations.

During EMDR, the therapist uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or tones) while guiding you through specific phases of treatment. This allows traumatic memories to lose their emotional charge and become integrated in a way that feels distant, manageable, and no longer overwhelming.

WHAT EMDR DOES

EMDR helps the brain do what it naturally wants to do: complete the healing process.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, research-backed trauma therapy that helps the brain process painful experiences so they no longer feel overwhelming or controlling. It doesn't just help you cope—it helps you heal.

WHY EMDR IS SO IMPORTANT FOR TRAUMA AND BETRAYAL

Trauma lives not only in thoughts–but in the nervous system.

EMDR works at the neurobiological level, helping calm the fight-flight-freeze response and restore a sense of internal safety. Rather than forcing you to relive the trauma over and over, EMDR allows healing to occur without excessive retelling or re-traumatization.

"I know I'm safe, but my body doesn't feel safe."

"I understand what happened, but I can't stop reacting."

"I keep reliving it, even when I don't want to."

EMDR IS ESPECIALLY EFFECTIVE FOR

Betrayal trauma and relational trauma, infidelity and attachment injuries, childhood trauma and developmental wounds, PTSD and complex trauma, anxiety, panic, and hypervigilance, and shame-based beliefs and negative self-concepts.

What the Research Shows About EMDR

EMDR is one of the most extensively researched trauma therapies available. Decades of studies demonstrate that EMDR is highly effective in reducing trauma symptoms and improving emotional regulation.

EMDR is recognized and recommended by leading organizations worldwide, including the World Health Organization and the American Psychological Association, as a first-line treatment for trauma.

RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT EMDR

  • Reduces PTSD symptoms, often more quickly than talk therapy alone

  • Decreases emotional intensity, intrusive thoughts, and body-based distress

  • Improves self-esteem and reduces shame-based beliefs

  • Produces lasting change, not just temporary relief

HOW EMDR IS DIFFERENT FROM

TRATIONAL TALK THERAPY

A figure stands in soft light against distant mountain peaks, hands near their face as they look up.

Traditional therapy often focuses on insight, coping skills, and understanding patterns. While valuable, this approach may not fully resolve trauma that is stored in the nervous system.

EMDR targets the root of the trauma, not just the symptoms · Works with the brain's natural healing processes · Reduces emotional reactivity without requiring detailed recounting · Helps clients feel relief, not just understand their story.

Many clients tell us, “I’ve talked about this for years, but EMDR helped it finally shift.”

“EMDR is not something we offer occasionally– it is a core part of our clinical work.”

All of our therapists are trained in EMDR, and we integrate this model thoughtfully and ethically into treatment. We do not rush clients into trauma processing. We begin with stabilization, preparation, and safety, ensuring your nervous system is ready for the work.

EMDR MAY BE USED

  • As a primary treatment modality

  • Integrated into individual, betrayal trauma, or couples work

  • Alongside other trauma-informed approaches

  • Via secure telehealth for clients anywhere in Colorado

  • Your therapist will collaborate with you to determine pacing, readiness, and goals — so the work feels contained, supportive, and empowering.

What Healing With EMDR Can Feel Like

A man looking out the window in deep contemplation.

Healing does not mean forgetting what happened. It means the memory no longer controls your present. Clients often report:

  • Fewer intrusive thoughts and emotional triggers

  • Reduced anxiety and hypervigilance

  • Relief from body-based distress

  • Increased emotional stability and clarity

  • A stronger, more compassionate sense of self

Talking about it hasn't been enough. This works differently.

"Many describe EMDR as the moment when things finally clicked — when their body caught up with what their mind already knew."
